arc|planet 2015 – 250 Attendees Joined a Fantastic Event to Learn About Best Practices and Latest Product Highlightsby arcplan
This year’s arc|planet in Düsseldorf has been a great success. Last Thursday and Friday we were hosting the world’s largest conference for arcplan users at the Van der Valk Airport Hotel OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERADüsseldorf, Germany. According to the claim of “Planning | Performance | Passion” customers, partners, and prospective clients were given detailed information and practical insight regarding the competitive benefits going with the implementation of arcplan-based performance management and planning solutions. Things are starting to get back to normal after last week’s landmark arc|twenty conference in Düsseldorf, Germany. I can finally catch my breath and think back on the awesome event we just held and all the customers and partners we learned from.
We normally call our annual conference arc|planet, but with it being arcplan’s 20th anniversary we decided to mix it up a bit and call it arc|twenty. On October 1st and 2nd, we hosted 250 international participants at the Hyatt Regency Düsseldorf, where everyone gathered for “Information & Celebration” – an apt theme this year as we soaked up information from BI industry experts as much as we celebrated our birthday and the launch of our newest platform release, arcplan 8.
Keynotes and Customer Presentations
Paul Warren from Mars kicked things off on Day 1. He covered the challenges Mars faced when trying to provide centralized, flexible reporting on their complex infrastructure, and how arcplan helped solve the problem.
Our CEO Roland Hölscher then gave a keynote called “Driving Business Analytics – Past, Present, Future,” a look back at BI 20 years ago when arcplan was founded as a bridge between IT and business leaders. From my perspective, seeing arcplan’s original product “inSight” on a floppy disk was pretty mind-blowing. He covered our history of innovation and really surprised some of the attendees who didn’t know that way back in 1994, arcplan was the first vendor to offer real-time access to many data sources and the first vendor with a visual designer for creating reports and other BI content.
Our CTO Hans Peter Wolff gave everyone an exclusive look at the new features of arcplan 8, particularly Responsive Design with HTML5, or what we call DORA (Design Once, Run Anywhere). He was followed over the next 2 days by more than 30 top-notch presentations by business intelligence experts, arcplan customers and partners, and the arcplan development team. A few highlights included…
Our annual user conference, arc|planet 2012, is fast approaching. We hope German-speaking arcplan users, developers, partners, and guests will join us at the Park Inn in Düsseldorf/Kaarst on October 30th and 31st for 2 days of presentations, networking, and of course, a little fun. By registering this week, attendees will save 30% off the conference price, making this one-of-a-kind event only 546 €.
This year’s theme echos arcplan’s tagline, “It simply works.” Participants will hear more than 20 talks on the latest business intelligence and planning innovations and trends, including mobile BI and big data, from arcplan customers and industry experts. The conference will open with a unique keynote speech by Paralympics athlete Wojtek Czyz. In his address, “Everything’s Possible,” the winner of several gold medals in Athens and Beijing will inspire attendees with a talk about personal challenges and how to overcome them. Also speaking are Martin Wilcox, Director of Product & Solution Marketing EMEA at Teradata, who will discuss how to “Do More With Your (Big) Data,” as well as representatives from Daimler AG, B|S|H, Hailo, Ineos, the Elster Group, Scout 24 and Deutsche Telekom.
Rounding out the conference will be presentations on the latest updates to our product suite and our roadmap led by arcplan experts.
An exciting addition to this year’s line-up is a presentation by the 2012 arc|ademy BI Challenge winners, who will present their arcplan solutions to the public for the first time.
In parallel to the main arc|planet program, there will also be an exhibition featuring the solutions and products of arcplan partners (and arc|planet sponsors) antares, b.telligent, Braincourt, Ernst & Young, Partake Consulting, SALT Solutions, Selbach Information Systems, Synaxus BI Solutions, TDWI Europe and Teradata.

On June 2nd, more than 200 participants came together for arc|planet Korea 2011. I was lucky enough to attend the event, our second in South Korea, and see terrific presentations from our customers in the finance, manufacturing, and retail industries. We were kindly hosted by our partner, Zalesia, who showed off arcplan Mobile on 5 different mobile phones and tablet PCs, which were never out of attendees’ hands.
Like arc|planet Germany, this event gathered arcplan users together for a day of best practice sharing, networking, and learning about arcplan’s vision and product strategy. There was a lot of excitement about our newest product, arcplan Engage, our BI search and collaboration tool, which gathers data, reports, and dashboards wherever they reside (whether they’re in SharePoint, Salesforce.com, email, arcplan, SAP, or other BI systems) and makes them available for rating and commenting so the best data rises to the top. Our Korean customers are early adopters of new technologies, so naturally arcplan Engage was a hot topic.
Also a hot topic – self-service analytics. There was a lot of interest around web pivoting and drag-and-drop functionality, both available in arcplan Enterprise 7.
You may have checked out our last post, which was a recap of arc|planet Germany, and wished you’d been able to attend. Well…I’m hoping that’s the case. You’re in luck because we’re bringing arc|planet to you tomorrow at noon Eastern. We’re holding our English-language arc|planet as a virtual conference for arcplan users, partners, and new friends and you can register here:
You’ll see an in-depth review of our product line and a first look at arcplan 7, our latest group of software releases. Experience arcplan Mobile and arcplan Engage, our next-generation BI search and collaboration tool. It’s unlike anything you’ve seen in the business intelligence space before and we’re excited to show it off!
Throughout the event, we’ll we’ll be sharing customer stories and ideas you can use to improve reporting, reduce planning cycles, and increase your BI ROI.
Registration for this one-of-a-kind event is free, but you must reserve your spot!
