Besides Common Charts, arcplan Enterprise provides the option to combine all base chart types in a flexible fashion and make them available as Advanced Charts on your BI dashboards. The list below is a snapshot of very popular, often highly aggregated charts that are used for advanced analysis and visualization. All are ideal to be incorporated in corporate dashboards or scorecards.
Bullet Charts
This chart type supports the comparison of a featured measure to one or more related measures. The big bars in the background declare its qualitative state (e.g. good, satisfactory, poor). The smaller bar in the foreground shows the current achieved value, while the small line shows the expected value. This chart gives you much more information than dashboard gauges and meters in less space.
Waterfall Charts
This chart type shows how an initial value is affected by a series of intermediate positive or negative values. While the intermediate values are denoted by floating columns, the initial and the final values are represented by whole columns. The columns are color coded for distinguishing between positive and negative values.
Histograms
A Histogram is a visualization of frequency distribution and values. It shows what proportion of cases fall into each of several categories. This is a very helpful tool, especially in quality control, since you see at a glance which factors have the highest frequency.
Candlestick Charts
A Candlestick Chart is basically the combination of a Line Chart and a Bar Chart. Each bar represents the range of a movement (e.g. a price) over a given time interval. It is most often used for financial analysis (like stock prices) and shows price movements of equity over time.
Box Plot Charts
Box Plots are a commonly used chart in descriptive statistics. They are a convenient way of graphically depicting groups of numerical data through their five-number summaries: smallest observation (sample minimum), lower quartile (Q1), median (Q2), upper quartile (Q3), and largest observation (sample maximum).
Pareto Charts
This chart type combines both bars and a line graph. The bars display the values in descending order and the line graph shows the cumulative total of each category. A Pareto Chart's purpose is to highlight the most important value among a set of factors. In quality control, it often represents the most common sources of defects, the highest occurring type of defect, or the most frequent reasons for customer complaints.
Gantt Charts
A chart type that visualizes progress in relation to time, often used in planning and tracking a project. It shows the start and finish dates of the terminal elements and summary elements of a project. Terminal elements and summary elements gather the work breakdown structure of the project, since each project is split up into sub-projects, including the progress of each.
Sparkline Charts
Sparklines, also known as Micro Charts, are an innovation for information presentation. They are small, high-resolution charts to be embedded in the context of words, numbers, or images, and represent an ideal way to display large amounts of data in an easy-to-digest chart. Even long lists of Sparklines are still easily digestible because they are typically made to be about the same height as the text around them.
